In a surprise move a couple of weeks ago, City Council used up its remaining COVID-19 Reserve Fund by giving almost $23 million dollars to residential developers. The gift will happen by way of tax breaks.
ATU and our partner Unions, CSU and CUPE will go to the negotiating table shortly. City managers and councillors are already decrying the terrible financial crisis we’re in and telling us how there just isn’t any money to afford its workers a fair wage increase – after we’ve already gone 2 years without one.
Councillors Nickel and Dziadek voted against the measure.
“Iveson said city staff didn’t have any other pressing proposals that would supersede this program.” Really, your Worship? The City’s workers are not a pressing proposal?
